Star Wars In Concert, in Liverpool – pictures and video

Posted by xxnapoleonsolo on 10th March , 2010

AS YOU may know, I went to see Star Wars In Concert at the Echo Arena in Liverpool last night, the first night of their UK tour.

My review for the Liverpool Echo can be read if you click here, but while I was there I also took some pictures of the exhibition displays and got a bit of video too.

So until the Star Wars legal leviathan comes smashing down upon me like an Imperial Walker upon a helpless Ewok, here they are!

Battlestar Galactica vs Beastie Boys in Sabotage (VIDEO)

Posted by xxnapoleonsolo on 10th March , 2010

I LOVE Battlestar Galactica. I love The Beastie Boys. And when they got together, it was moider!

Until the corporate lawyers come down on it like a ton of bricks, here is a great You Tube video marrying Galactica clips with the Beasties’ hit Sabotage.

Kudos to Katamaran78 for putting it together.

Cool Tron Legacy trailer puts you in teh internet again – with hot cyber chicks!

Posted by xxnapoleonsolo on 9th March , 2010

THE new Tron Legacy teaser trailer is online now and boy does it look absolutely amazing – check it out.

First of all, how great is it to see Bruce Boxleitner back where he belongs? He has always been good value for money, ever since Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, so it was a kick to see Alan return.

Secondly, the cyberspace itself has obviously moved on several generations from the original and looks cool too, especially the hot chicks and light cycles.

Having watched the original film only recently, one thing this doesn’t have is the sense of other worldliness that the first film possessed. That could be down to the new-look and also the soundtrack, which was very much 1980s  synthesiser back then and helped to take you away from the ‘real’ world.

And I want David Warner back for at least one scene where he can shout ‘bring in the logic probe!’

In any case, with the film not due out until December, the film’s creators have plenty of time to polish their MCPs between now and then.

Connected short science fiction film is eerily good

Posted by xxnapoleonsolo on 8th March , 2010

CONNECTED popped into my reader from IO9 and I have been obsessed with it since then.

A short film made by Jens Raunkjær Christensen & Jonas Drotner Mouritsen, it is (according to the blurb) a story about survival and greed with a post apocalyptic wasteland as its backdrop.

Survivors of an unknown disaster shuffle through a desolate landscape, as it quickly becomes clear that not everybody has the strength to survive.

It is also eerie and ruthless as hell.

Oscar night Iron Man 2 trailer rocks the shizzle!

Posted by xxnapoleonsolo on 8th March , 2010

HERE’s the Iron Man 2 trailer which was broadcast on Oscar night in America, on the Jimmy Kimmel show. Stand by for awesome!

I mean wow! Really wow!

Despite what must have been tons more pressure compared to making the first film – and helming a multi-million dollar action blockbuster is never a walk in the park – Jon Favreau and co look to have pulled it off.

I loved the line about making god bleed, and the suitcase armour. The battle scene – only glimpsed before – between Iron Man, War Machine and the rip off armour suits looks jaw dropping too.

But through it all, Robert Downey Jnr’s charisma comes shining through like an arc reactor on overdrive.

Your reactions?

Brilliant Aliens vs Predator graphic is better than the films

Posted by xxnapoleonsolo on 6th March , 2010

DO YOU remember when Aliens and Predators were movie monsters to be feared, not pointed at and the butt of jokes?

It’s difficult I know, but they were scary and deadly once, and terrifying, not ham fisted, unconvincing and boring.

It’s that fear which inspired graphic designer Stephen Taubman to create the following fantastic graphic, outlining what would happen in an AvP battle (presumably one with a good director and decent production values)
