ANYONE wondering what happened to the Master when he disappeared into a ball of light battling Time Lords in David Tennant‘s Doctor Who swansong The End of Time part two should ponder no more – he’s rematerialised in Liverpool.

John Simm was filming in the city today for his role in Jimmy McGovern‘s drama Moving On.

He is filming for episode five, called Malaise, alongside Trainspotting star Ewen Bremner, and they were busy at The Quarter, a cafe in Faulkner Street in Liverpool.

The episode is directed by The Wire star Dominic West, Jimmy McNulty in the American police drama.

It is the actor’s directorial debut and he was on set today, barking out instructions in his natural English accent.

Although West’s science fiction credentials are not as well established as Simm, he did land the prize role of ‘palace guard’ in Star Wars The Phantom Menace.

He is also due to play San Than in John Carter of Mars, due out in 2012. A full picture gallery of the filming is available on the Liverpool Echo’s website by clicking here.
