Bafta nominated actress Carey Mulligan is latest Doctor Who star with Liverpool links

THE delightful Carey Mulligan has become the latest Doctor Who star to reveal her Liverpool links.

Carey, who starred in perhaps the greatest new Who story, Blink, revealed in my newspaper The Liverpool Echo that Paul McCartney‘s mum, Mary, was the midwife who delivered her dad Stephen at Walton Hospital.

She added: “I saw Sir Paul McCartney at the Golden Globes and that made me go ‘Oh my God’ because my dad was delivered by his mum. I wanted to go and tell him that.”

If you didn’t know, Sir Paul’s mum is the ‘mother Mary’ he sings about in Let It Be.

Carey now joins the ranks of scouse Whovians  – Doctors Tom Baker and Paul McGann and assistant Elisabeth Sladen – who were all born in Liverpool.

Carey’s dad moved down to London, where the actress was born, with the family moving to Germany when she was three.

She has been nominated for a Bafta best actress award for her role in An Education. The Bafta awards are being held at the Royal Opera House on Sunday February 21.

None of which gets me any closer to my fantasy of getting her to come and live with me as my second wife, as long as I can call her Sally. Too creepy?
