Celebrate Scyfi Love’s second birthday with a Liverpool science fiction pub crawl

BELIEVE it or not it has been two years since Scyfi Love first opened its doors for blogging business – here’s my first ever post to prove it!

To celebrate the landmark in style, I’m throwing out an open invite for anyone who fancies it to join a special pub crawl around Liverpool this Saturday – May 1 – starting at Flanagan’s Apple in Mathew Street at 5.30pm for 6pm. I’ll be the chap in the hat.

Why there? Because in 1976, Ken Campbell set up the Science Fiction Theatre of Liverpool in the upstairs room at the pub, to stage the Illuminatus! trilogy, more of which will be revealed on the night.

And that’s the idea – from there we will embark upon a tour of Liverpool pubs that are (loosely) linked with sci-fi before ending up in the Philharmonic at a time that I imagine will be open to some considerable fluctuation.

You can get drunk and learn something at the same time, only to have forgotten it all by the morning.

Here’s a map showing where Flanagan’s Apple is. See you there?
