IF ever anyone questions the value of the internet, just show them this video of the Doctor Who theme tune played using lightning!
Gaze in open-mouthed, dribbling wonder!
ArcAttack built the singing Tesla Coils in 2005, with each one throwing out arcs of electricity of up to 12 feet long and packing half a million volts!
They are played by Patrick ‘Parsec’ Brown wearing a chain-mail Faraday suit who – just like a mad scientist’s version of a theremin – moves his arms to attract the lightning and produce different notes, which sound like a synthesiser.
As if that wasn’t enough, the band also have a robotic drum kit to add to the spectacle.
And as an extra treat, here they are performing the Imperial March with the kind of panache only Darth Vader could come close to matching – the force is very definitely strong with this one. Thanks to io9 for the heads up.

Info in this article is incorrect. The tesla coils are being controlled by computer sequncing. Patrick “parsec” brown is essentially just standing there waiving his arms around while the coil arc randomly strikes him.
OK – thanks for the technical stuff, Dr Science
