Speaking to Cinema Blend, Feige said: “So is this a spoiler for Ant-Man… not really. I’m obsessed with Star Wars. Who’s not? I’m 40 years old. I’m in the movie business. I went to USC.
“So I’m obsessed with Star Wars – and it didn’t start out as intentional, but it became intentional, including that beat that you referenced. It sort of happens in every Star Wars movie, but I was sort of looking at it, ‘Okay, is Phase Two our Empire?’ Not really, but tonally things are a little different.
“Somebody gets their arm cut off in every Phase Two movie. Every single one.”
It is brilliant that no-one gave this scheme the elbow, because it is a low-rist strategy (That’s enough hand puns – ed).
But with some films still to come, there are some more appendages still to be sent flying. Could it be one of Ultron’s arms in The Avengers? The Vision? Or someone else in one of the Scarlet Witch’s fever dreams? And when you have six legs – as some of Ant man’s buddies will have – it’s a bit easier to lose one I guess.
Time will tell, but well played Marvel, well played.
