Star Wars on the New York subway by Improv Everywhere

IMPROV Everywhere are back as they recreate Princess Leia‘s showdown with Darth Vader from Star Wars on the New York subway.

Lovely stuff, and a great follow up to their video as Ghostbusters in New York library, to highlight funding cuts. You can visit their You Tube channel by clicking here.

Top five science fiction politicians who’d win the UK Election at a stroll

IN science fiction the bad politician is so commonplace as to be the most cliched of cliches.

But in a world where the default setting is not to trust anyone in authority in case they turn out to be an alien/ a traitor/ a robot/ an evil Sith lord who has manipulated his way to the top over several decades in a diabolical scheme to rule the galaxy/ posh, there are some good guys and girls too.

I’ve talked about the worst, now here’s my pick of the best science fiction politicians who I’d usher into Downing Street ahead of the current shower in a heartbeat. Do you agree?

Darth Vader brings you Star Wars sat nav

IF you’re a fan of Chad Vader, you’re already well aware of the comedic possibilities of an inept Lord of the Sith.

However this advert promoting Star Wars voices on Tom-Tom sat-nav is genius. Enjoy!

I like it so much I can’t even bring myself to feel mad at George Lucas selling off another precious childhood memory of mine.

Scyfi Love Liverpool pub crawl – thanks to Jim Carrey

TO my absolute amazement, the legendary Hollywood funnyman Jim Carrey was one of the people who responded to my call on Twitter for words of wisdom and advice.

Among his wise words Jim, as I know him, said to raise a glass in his name, so here we are sir.

Scyfi Love Liverpool pub crawl – what a night!

IT is the day after the night before and the Scyfi Love Liverpool pub crawl to celebrate this blog’s second birthday was an awesome night out.

With a posse of friends, we hit six pubs around Liverpool town centre – each with a science fiction link – and went on our way with a dash of Hollywood glamour.

Doctor Who is real! Rose Tyler photograph from 1963

IN my day job I work for the Liverpool Echo, and was searching our picture archive for General Election pictures from years ago.

Imagine my surprise when I happened across this real photograph, taken in May 1963, of a man and woman on the doorstep in Liverpool.

Predator and Danny Glover dancing on Predator 2 set (video)

GIVEN what an ungodly mess they have made of the franchise since Predator 2, I’m surprised this wasn’t included as an actual scene in Aliens vs Predator.

Your eyes are not deceiving you – this is footage inside the Predator ship as the Predators who confronted Danny Glover at the end of the film and acknowledged his badassery after he killed one of their number apparently decided to celebrate with an impromptu dance off.

The results are mixed – although one of the Predators has clearly been watching too much MTV during his time on Earth given the shapes he throws.

Enjoy!

Tom Wilson Back To The Future The Question song

I’M GOING to be off the reservation for a few days so thought I’d leave you with this video of Tom Wilson and his song, The Question, from Funny Or Die.

It’s an oldie but a goodie as the bloke who played Biff Tannen in Back to the Future runs through the questions he is always asked. See you in a few!

Monty Python science fiction sketch video

I HAD never seen this, but it just goes to show you what some spare time and a You Tube search can produce.

Here are the two bits of Monty Python’s science fiction sketch, where a person or persons unknown is changing people into Scotsmen. The horror!

Hot Tub Time Machine trailer

IF YOU’VE been anywhere near Twitter over the past few days, you’ll have seen John Cusack (aka @shockozulu) going mad over his new film, Hot Tub Time Machine.

Basically it sees a group of friends going back in time to the 1980s thanks a drunken weekend and a hot tub that seems to have been fitted with an extra flux capacitor.

I have high hopes for this, if only because John Cusack’s 1980s films – like The Sure Thing and Better Off Dead – were almost all brilliant to mid-teenage me and set the bar for stupid teen comedies (The Sure Thing also had Anthony Edwards in his 1980s glory as Lance, the party-mad best friends). Here’s the trailer.
